You Can Start the Search Yourself
Use the official unclaimed-property program for each state connected to your parent. Search prior names and addresses as well as the most recent ones.
Save the property or claim reference. Similar names are common; compare the details and ask the state what evidence it needs.
Ask for Instructions for a Deceased Owner
The documents can depend on the owner, the estate, the amount, and state rules. A death certificate, relationship records, or papers showing authority to act may be required.
Use the state’s secure process for sensitive documents. A service that helps locate money does not replace the agency’s review of the claim.
If the Instructions Are Difficult to Follow
Ask the state’s claims team what is missing and whether an estate procedure is required. Write down the exact document or issue holding up the claim.
Heirwell currently provides free guidance and custom heir research reports. Recovery agreements and managed claims are not offered through this website at this stage.
